Do you have a Twitter plan? How do you balance and manage your Twitter time? Twitter can easily steal away your time and efficiency. How can you work with it without it taking over? Easy! You need a solid Twitter Plan where you can plan and organize current and future tweets. This will keep you on track and make sure you don’t get lost in the Twitter world.

1. Choose a time to check into your Twitter.
If you are trying to get through all the Twitter noise, then you may consider managing your Twitter first thing in the morning or after dinner. This will allow you plenty of time to manage and plan your next tweets.

2. Plan your daily tweets.
Decide on what you want to tweet. Your tweets should be a variety. This includes different types of tweets (i.e. videos, images, etc.). Don’t spam with blog updates or one-track tweets. Keep it diverse. Here are some ideas:

  • Images
  • Blog Post Updates
  • Videos
  • Witty Joke or Comment
  • Ask Questions
  • Helpful Industry Resources
  • Announcements/Events

3. Categorize your list of Tweets for the day.
Find bits of information to meet your categories. Categories are the types of tweets you want to post. Finding things to tweet within these categories will let you make plans for future tweets. Keep in mind that these are tweets. NOT direct messages. Do not spam direct messages!

4. Use Twitter Tools
Use Twuffer, Tweetlater, Hootsuite, etc. to plan and schedule your tweets.

5. Set up an automated “welcome” response to new followers.
This is part of best practice and is another way to invite followers to take more action.

6. Supplement your daily tweets with spontaneous tweets.
Tweet personal, business, or random experiences in your day. Don’t get lost in it.

Measure your Tweet Plan
There are many ways to measure your how your tweets are doing. Many URL shortners will keep track of data for you. Some shortners that will do so are BudURL, ly, and ly.
