Why Email Marketing is Still the Best
Repost: Original article by: vcmarketing
I stumbled upon an old blog post called Email Marketing is Not Dead by Darren Rowse of ProBlogger and this reminded me of when I started my career as an email marketer. With the hype of online marketing on social media networks taking all the limelight, what happened to the forgotten online marketing tactic, which started it all when the web was starting to take fruition? Yes, I’m talking about email marketing. Ok, most people may consider email marketing as a form of spam but I’m not talking about flooding random people with irrelevant emails and selling them Viagra or porn sites. I’m talking about users who have actually subscribed to receive things like a newsletter, email updates and then sending carefully targeted emails.
My online marketing career actually started working for an email marketing agency, where I learned a hell of a lot of on how to create emails, how to effectively target users and improve CR on email campaigns. From my experience and what most people don’t realise is that email marketing is still one of the best online marketing strategies out there and offers the best conversion rates (CR). Also in terms of cost, it can be relatively cheaper to send an email campaign to your email list then it is to launch an online ads campaign but this comes down to your resources. In my opinion, here some reasons why email marketing is still the best strategy for online marketing:
1. Better CR
The email list you have should contain users who have subscribed or opted-in to receive emails you intend to send out, i.e. have given consent for you to send them emails. When you have a list of users who have given consent, this basically says, "OK, I’m happy for you to send me further information to my email inbox." So the chances of users actually opening and reading the content you have set in the email is going to be far better than if you sent a random link to them.
2. Email List of People
An email list illustrates users are interested in you, your product or service, which is a great thing because it allows you to determine if what you are doing is successful or not and allows you to personally communicate with your niche of users.
3. Personalisation
Sending emails allows you to build a relationship and communicate with your users where you can add a personal touch like a normal email you send to your family or friends. Email marketing allows you to keep in touch, get instant feedback or offer support from your users or customers.
4. Segmentation
Having an email list allows you to easily segment your users providing you the ability to effectively create targeted emails. For example you can create different email campaigns based on demographic segments sorted by age, location or country.
5. Relevant Content
When users subscribe to your email list, they only want to receive relevant content, which is why emails offers the best CR because the content is more relevant than standard online adverts.
6. Easy to Track
This obviously depends on what email tracking provider you use but tracking email campaigns is very easy so you can pretty much identify who opened your emails, who didn’t read your emails, what links they clicked on and which emails bounced back.
Email marketing is still one of the best online marketing strategies because it’s more cost-effective, offers the best conversion rates and allows you to instantly interact with your users or customers. Do you think email marketing is still great for online marketing or are there more cost effective tactics that offer better conversion rates? Please let me know your thoughts or comments.
